What password best practice is supported by the ability to set password history in Windows?

Password history is intended to prevent password reuse in Windows. It is commonly paired with a minimum password age to prevent users from simply resetting their password multiple times until they can reuse their password, and a longer history is used to make this more difficult too. It does not influence password length or complexity.
