How do routers classify traffic for QoS?

QoS classifies traffic with access control lists (ACLs) and applies markings to the packets. Layer 2 ASICs help process the QoS but do not classify the QoS for traffic. Route tables are used for routing and therefore have no effect on QoS. Frame filters are used to forward/filter frames to their destination port; they are part of the switching process.
